Completed in 1885, it served as a psychiatric hospital until the 1970s when it was largely abandoned. Now, the hospital’s infamous Z Ward – where the criminally and mentally insane were held – is open to the public, running both day tours and ghost tours that tell the stories of the inmates and this fascinatingly dark side of colonial history."
